Care for this western influence?
I read a article in Readers Digest recently of how thousands of elderly people in America are being fast-tracked to the pearly gates of St.Peters(literally) through the Nursing homes for the Elderly.

The worst part of it was the management of the Nursing homes rake in enormous profits by knowingly under/junk staffing and get away with mandatory rules and regulations in dubious wasys. Frankly America the land of plenty and freedom took a severe beating in my mind more than George Bush could ever have hoped to do with his Quixotic war for WMDs in Iraq
With our nation being so happy to embrace the practices of the West, I am just dreading for the day when news such as these become a common story back home. Iam not saying that we are living in an ideal world back home where the aged people are cared for like Gods. But atleast the majority of us still do take pride in caring for our parents and it is also a symbiotic relationship in most cases where our Parents form the guardians and pillars of strength for our children while we are away at work.
The ending note on that article says that the best chances for these old people are when children/relatives atleast come and keep a regular tab on their aged parents. And that brings us back to very Indian virtues of ensuring that we take care of our Parents (with the same love and affection they gave us) until they leave for their peacedful journey to the heavenly abode.
Take Pride in our culture and its virtues!!!
